Ark Valley River Riders
FIBArk Community Paddling Center and Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center offer the Ark [+more] Valley River Riders, a youth paddling program that cultivates local youth participation in whitewater sports and a life-long understanding of river stewardship.
AVRR offers youth paddlers, ages 8 – 18, opportunities to participate in whitewater kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddling. Instruction and equipment offered by RMOC and FIBArk both on the river and at the Salida Hot Springs Pool provides a safe and accessible foundation of whitewater skills. Beginning paddlers learn boat fitting, basic strokes, balancing, safety, wet exits, T-rescues and calm water rolls. Advanced courses include river safety and hydrology, whitewater risk assessment, advanced stroke technique and combat rolls. For youth paddlers interested in competition, AVRR offers coaching in three disciplines: freestyle, wildwater and the Olympic sport of whitewater slalom.
The State of Colorado is known for its world-class pool of consistently talented young paddlers. The Ark Valley River Riders cultivates that talent and strives to create one of the best paddling teams in the country.
FIBArk and RMOC are committed to making the Ark Valley River Riders a safe and accessible program for
Arkansas Valley youth to hone their skills in whitewater and in life. If your child would like to participate
in this program, please contact Alli Gober at k1wslalom@gmail.com or Kate Stepan at kate@rmoc.com.
We strive to create competent boaters, winning athletes and life-long river stewards through
professional paddle sports instruction, fun river events and world-class competition.
