January 1st Race Update:
Good morning, and Happy New Year!
With just 3 days before the 2026 Gunstock Freestyle Zak Cup, the venue is shaping up nicely. Gunstock has continued to make and spread snow, and we have finalized the course:
You'll be racing on a 1.6k loop, beginning in the Stadium in front of the GNA Gary Allen Clubhouse, traveling counterclockwise up the Powerline trail, left onto the rolling Longbow, sharp left onto Quiver which has a short climb and windy descent in the middle, and back down into the Stadium.
Saturday evening - Start Lists with Start Times posted on webscorer.com
Sunday morning:
- 7:30 am - GNA Clubhouse open for bib pickup, course open for preview / warm-up
- 9:00 am - Open Women and Men (U18 and older): 6 laps x 1.6k for 9.6k total
- 10:00 am - U16 Girls and Boys (14 & 15 yr olds): 3 laps x 1.6k for 4.8k total
- 10:45 am - BKL 5th-6th & 7th-8th grade Girls and Boys: 2 laps x 1.6k for 3.2k total
The course will remain open in between events for preview / warm-up
HOT FOOD will be available (donation$ appreciated!) in the clubhouse: Grilled Cheese, Tomato Soup, etc…
Gunstock's Nordic Ski Trail report may be found here: Gunstock - XC Conditions
Conditions have been improving daily as more manmade snow gets spread and groomed on the race course. That said: we recommend you warm up on training skis before deciding if you want to use your good race skis.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday morning!

December 29th Conditions and Weather update:
Good afternoon! We experienced an ‘ice event’ last night, with about a 1/4" of ice forming on top of the trails after rain and cold temperatures.
Gunstock has been making and spreading a lot of snow the past few weeks and, at this point, we're planning to have a manmade loop of at least 1.5k in length for race day. This means it will be a multi-lap event.
The temperatures between now and race day look favorable for making snow and not losing any more natural snow. That said: we don't recommend using your best skis for the race unless we get a major storm this week.
Speaking of more snow: I just read that “New Hampshire is among many northeastern states under the threat of a bomb cyclone with some areas receiving up to 2 feet of new snow.” Fingers crossed on that!
Additional race details, schedule etc… will be posted here during the coming days.
We're looking forward to hosting another great event on Sunday January 4th!

Welcome to the 2026 Gunstock Freestyle Zak Cup!
The Gunstock Nordic Association (GNA), along with our event sponsor Granite State Physical Therapy, are happy to report that the nordic ski season at Gunstock is off to a great start with both natural (10" on 12/1 and more on the way!) and manmade snow. Gunstock put a lot of thought and labor into the nordic trail system this summer and have a solid long-term plan for continuous improvement. We're anticipating some great skiing this winter!
Please note: The race distances listed are subject to change based on ski conditions. In the past, we have typically used a 4.4k loop with 3, 2, and 1 lap races based on age groups equaling 13.2k, 8.8k, and 4.4k
With continued cooperation from mother nature, our intent is to provide the most enjoyable course possible.
